Hey Coaches,

One of the biggest challenges that pops up during the high school season is game planning for various styles of defenses. One wrinkle that you must always be prepared for is when coaches go to their favorite Zone Defense. To some extent, zone defenses can take the game out of the hands of the coaches and force your players to make shots and key decisions in space.

One of the things that "zone coaches" believe is that they are making you go to your second-best offense. They assume that you spend little time on this in practice, and try to use it to their advantage. To get ahead of this I try to work on our 131 Zone Offense from the very first week. With the 131 Alignment, I am trying to create a Zone Offense that is simple, can function vs multiple types of zones, and hunts a clear progression of shots.
